FAQ: How do I upload my website using FTP?

FTP Software

First, download an FTP client if you do not already have one. LeechFTP and FileZilla are good programs for Windows, while Fetch and RBrowser Lite work well for the Macintosh. You can download these programs from the Internet. The FRII support staff is familiar with these programs and can assist you with using them.

Settings and Path Name

Unless the account was specifically setup for Windows hosting, all accounts are hosted in our Unix environment.

Hosting Settings

Your User ID is your FRII login. Your password the password associated with your FRII login. The host to connect to is "ftp.frii.com."

Use the path "/u/username/vp/yourdomain.tld/www/"; replace "username" with your username, and replace "yourdomain.tld" with the name of your domain. To view your site, you can direct your browser to "http://www.yourdomain.tld", again replacing yourdomain.tld with the name of your domain.

Other Information

Make sure your main web page is called "index.html," "index.htm," or (if you are using a cgi script to generate the index page) "index.cgi."
