What is SpringSips?

SpringSips is an Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the communities of Steamboat Springs and Craig. We provide a connection to the Internet, Email, and the World Wide Web. Any area that can make a local call to Steamboat Springs or Hayden can be immediately connected with our service. If you are outside that local calling area, it may take us a couple of extra days....And the installer may ask for food when he/she gets there.

What does "SpringSips" stand for?

Even we have a controversy surrounding this particular subject. Here are the warring viewpoints. Take your pick or mix them up a bit in your head. The person responsible for the name always chooses the latter.

  • The "Springs" stands for Steamboat Springs (since our base of operations is there) and the "ips" is just the letters ISP mixed up a bit so that a real word is formed.
  • We give our Internet Service clients small "sips" of the larger "spring" of the World Wide Web through the limited service we provide.

How do I FTP?

There are actually a few different ways to ftp files into your directory. The easiest way to ftp using Netscape is outlined here. Type in the URL location box:

"ftp://username:password@jimi.springsips.com/public_html".

Be sure to put YOUR username and password in the places we've indicated "username" and "password". Then, click and drag the files you want to ftp into the screen after it finishes loading. You can check your URL (http://www.springsips.com/~username) to see what it looks like.

To ftp using another program, use this information to configure your connection:

Host Name/Server = jimi.springsips.com
Username = Your Username
Password = Your Password

Make sure to put all the files you upload to our server into the public_html folder. When creating a website, make sure to name your home page "index.html."

I've tried and I can't get on-line.

There are several possibilities. The first one is that it's raining/precipitating, and water has gotten into the phone lines. Because we live in a mountain community, this is bound to happen more than we like. The only thing to do is keep trying. Sorry. Another thing that often happens is your computer has glitched and is telling you to check your connection in Dial-Up Networking. Now, if you haven't touched anything in there, most likely your computer is having a bad day. Close down all your programs and restart the machine. If this fails, shut it down completely and wait a few minutes before you restart.

If all of those suggestions don't work, try turning off your error connection in your modem. If you don't know how to do this, check out How do I turn off error correction in my modem? on this same page.

Still can't connect? Egad! The next thing to do is to contact your friendly phone company, Qwest. Telephone them at 1-800-573-1311 to request a repair order. Tell them that you are having problems transmitting data over your phone line and persist in your request for service until they put out a repair order for your line. After they visit your lines, the problem should disappear. Also, visiting the Qwest web site and putting in a comment seems to help with response time and effectiveness of the repair.

If you still can't get on after you've exhausted these suggestions, give us a call at (970) 871-0913. Although, if you're reading this here, the problem is probably solved.

Can I change my email password?

Yes. Give us a call at 871-0913 and we'll get that done for you. PLEASE don't make a habit of doing this. Once is fine if needed.

I forgot what my password is.

If you still have the paperwork your installer gave you, look there for your magic word. If you can't find that paperwork, call us at 871-0913.
